Business Informatics is a Master's degree programme of 60 ECTS for engineers in profession who want to deepen their strategic and managerial expertise through improved information management and better use of business intelligence systems. You will become a competent analyzer and user of business intelligence in decision-making, in business operations as well as in business development. [+]

Objectives Business Informatics is a Master's degree programme of 60 ECTS for engineers in profession who want to deepen their strategic and managerial expertise through improved information management and better use of business intelligence systems. You will become a competent analyzer and user of business intelligence in decision-making, in business operations as well as in business development. Content The Master's degree programme in Business Informatics consists of: Advanced professional studies 15 ECTS Alternative advanced professional studies 10 ECTS from a set of choices Elective studies 5 ECTS Master’s Thesis 30 ECTS Each student plans and implements a development project in/for real business life, typically for their work organization. In doing so, the student’s research, project and change management skills will be enhanced. Networking, team, and negotiation skills also improve in the multi-cultural, tied-to-business setting in which this Master’s DP is carried out. This R&D project will be reported as a Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS). Study Period The Master's Degree Programme in Business Informatics is organized so that its participants can combine studying with full-time work. The length of studies is determined by the entry line through which the student gets accepted. When studying on a part-time basis, the student can achieve the Master’s degree in 1,5 years, however with flexibility both ways. Contact Sessions Contact sessions take place mainly on Fridays (9.00-16.15), approximately twice a month. Occasionally, evening classes or an intensive weekend session may be arranged. Various forms of e-learning will also be applied. A significant feature of learning in the Master's Degree Programme of Business Informatics comes from its multi-disciplinary approach: all courses leading to the Master of Engineering degree are shared with Business Informatics students aiming to become Masters of Business Administration. A lot is expected from the participants, a lot is also given by the professionals of business and academics lecturing and leading the sessions. Some sessions take place in the facilities of the business companies participating in the network. Joint sessions with partner universities will be arranged (intensive weeks, study trips, etc). Study abroad options such as Summer School or Winter School will also be introduced via the international partner network. These are expected to bring about agreements on possible joint or double degrees at a later stage. Scholarships Per each degree programme it is agreed that 50% of the applicants coming outside EU / EEA countries, having the most successful results in the entrance examination, will receive a full exemption from the tuition fee in the first academic year. During the 2.-4. academic years, a scholarship covering 75% of the yearly tuition fee will be granted provided that the student has accrued: a minimum of 55 credits (ECTS) during the previous academic year (ending on 31st July​) in a Bachelor degree programme a minimum of 20 credits (ECTS) during the previous semester (autumn semester ending 31.12. and spring semester ending 31.7.) in a Master degree programme In years 2-4, the remaining 25% of a student’s tuition fee may be waived if the school determines that it is justified based on social, health, or other reasons. HTW Berlin and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences jointly run the international master programme ConREM - Construction and Real Estate Management. It is designed for professionals who wish to manage international projects for building construction and real estate in the future. Therefore it is mainly addressed to professionals in the field of architecture and civil engineering. First year studies of ConREM (60 ECTS during semesters 1 and 2) will be organized by Metropolia (Helsinki). Second year studies (semesters 3 and 4) will be in HTW Berlin. Content ConREM provides you a combination of engineering, economics, management and communication. Specific contents, like project development and project management as well as life cycle management, and general subjects, such as soft skills and leadership, are taught - all in context of international business. Accordingly this programme is taught completely in English. ConREM enables you to cooperate with people of different social, cultural and professional backgrounds, to adapt to foreign environments and to become acquainted with different mentalities and habits. Management abilities and adaptability to manage changing international conditions is a need for cooperation and teamwork in a global market on national and international level. Master's Programme in Health Business Management is a joint programme customized for social and health care professionals as well as for business and engineering professionals who want to expand their expertise through improved management skills in this very key sector. Health Business Management in a nutshell Business managerial competences will be required in social and health care organizations nationally and internationally in the future. Ageing of population in many societies will challenge health care systems and processes to produce health care services in more efficient ways. Digitalization of customer relationship management and services is a major change and driver for new services and processes. Health business is a major global business opportunity driving future growth and national prosperity. The emphasize of the programme is in customer and in service business orientation and it has a multidisciplinary approach into business management. The programme provides a wide perspective to service business, competencies for team and project leadership and advancement in management skills. All studies are linked to health or social care organizations. The HBM Master’s students will be offered an environment to practice and enhance their international and communication skills in a very multicultural group of peers, staff and faculty. Lectures, seminars, workshops as well as learning materials and outputs are all in English. Content The Master's Degree Programme in Health Business Management consists of advanced professional studies (25 ECTS), elective studies (5 ECTS) and Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS). Our aim is to educate you to work in advanced specialist tasks in the field of ICT, focusing on two fields: networking and services and health technology. The studies enable you to follow the professional development of the field, both from the applied research and practical viewpoints. The program is targeted for professionals in working life wishing to become a Master in Information Technology. Studies are designed and implemented in such a way that students in full-time employment can participate. Prerequisite for participation is a bachelor level degree in engineering and at least three years of working life experience is required. Our intercultural program is conducted in English to allow improvement of your communication skills. Your Master's degree will directly refer to your real life project and address both your company's and your personal interest. The teaching is aimed at professionals both with an industry and a public sector background. Program content (preliminary) The degree consists of Professional Studies (30 ECTS credits) and Master’s thesis project (30 ECTS credits). Studies consist of lectures, laboratory work, workshops, assignments, and projects as well as independent studying. The professional studies are offered at the Bulevardi campus. In the first study year, you will undertake a course in research methods and attend a seminar on Trends in ICT, and complete 20 ECTS from our course offerings for professional studies. You can broaden your studies by completing one course outside the advanced professional courses offering or by doing a research or innovation project on an agreed topic. The methodological studies provide you the required knowledge to prepare and facilitate a high quality Master’s Thesis. The lectures on Trends in ICT -course are given by professionals from highly esteemed companies in the field of ICT and health technology and will provide you with a good understanding of the current status of the business and the challenges the industry is facing. Course includes a 3 or 4 day excursion to Medica 2017 trade affair that is the largest trade affair in the medical field. The excursion is held in November 2017. Students can apply for 200 euros sponsorship from Metropolia. Excursion can be replaced with individual assignment related to course content. The advanced professional courses are divided into two major options:networking and services and health technology. Networking and services The networking and services option gives a broad and up-to-date knowledge on this fast developing field of networked applications. Cloud Computing gives an insight into existing and emerging technologies and tools for utilizing and creating cloud-based services and applications. The Big Data course provides understanding of the capabilities of big data in ICT business. The Internet of Things (IoT) course extends this knowledge into internetworking of devices to collect and exchange data to form “the infrastructure of the information society”. In this major option the participants will also get knowledge of methods and tools used for assuring good software quality. Health technology Health technology is the fastest growing field of technology in Finland. The Health Technology option is tailored for professionals working in business, industry and public sector, who want to deepen their knowledge, skills and competences in health technology to capture new career opportunities of the future. Studies enable novel career prospects for professionals with previous degree for example from ICT, automation, electronics or electrical engineering. The Health technology option is focused on medical device R&D. Option gives knowledge of health technology business environment and tools for management and business development purposes, and knowledge and tools for user oriented medical device R&D and usability testing. Option provides knowledge and tools for understanding clinical parameters, measurements, devices and environments, and understanding of special characteristics of medical device development.
