M.Des. in Public Space Design Students displaying their work from a public space design course, which explored Urban Planning through mapping. Course: Making Places Public places are sometimes the sites for conflict of race, class, gender and economics. But they are also places of synergy and the collective where individuals and communities can interact with each other. In the Indian context where pastoral communities consider grasslands as common land that everyone’s cattle can graze in or streets that become make shift markets where street vendors have traditionally congregated to sell their produce. With emerging technologies such as the Internet of things and cloud computing we will increasingly connect everyone and everything in a seamless network, further blurring the boundaries between public and private. All of this adds varied dimensions to the word “public”. It is critical to understand this changing dynamic of public space. The program fosters empathetic and reflective designers capable of engaging with theory and public policy. The Information Arts and Information Design Course at Srishti will explore the idea that all data is narrative. Information is narrative, but with purposefulness. Stories craft our identity, they heal, inform, challenge and are the stuff of which our lives are made of. [+]

Melhores Mestrados em Design na Índia 2017. M.Des. in Information Arts and Information Design Practice We preserve and transmit culture, language and all historical record, whether myth or real, using the power of narrative. Narrative or stories that are not just the oral and the written, but in art, in dance, music and drama, embracing philosophy, history, politics, the environment and the social sciences. The Information Arts and Information Design Course at Srishti will explore the idea that all data is narrative. Information is narrative, but with purposefulness. Stories craft our identity, they heal, inform, challenge and are the stuff of which our lives are made of. Traditional boundaries of the narrative are constantly broken in the interfaces of the global and the local, the traditional and the contemporary. Access to information is making the physical boundaries of the world we live in permeable. With multiple screens, constant connectivity, social and mass media has taken on a completely new form. The narrative has become all-pervasive, whether it be complex data that is to be effectively disseminated to diverse audiences, using diverse media, or it be used as a tool for research with communities in flux. Within Spaces’ is a poetic journey through the picturesque landscape of the Andamans. Chaitali Pai has used watercolors to portray the fluidity of water and the wax paintings reveal the motions of sand and water during tides. From a knowledge-based society, the challenge is to move to a wisdom-based society. To this end, we seek to find ways to seamlessly draw from the essence and spirit of the jester, the bard and the wandering minstrels in our modern guises. In that, the Information Arts and Information Design program is about crafting oneself as a storyteller, a behroopiya, whose stories are crafted through the fine lenses of time and space, cultures and contexts, information, knowledge and the extraction of wisdom. An illustration from Anukriti Kedia's book that talks about the lives of Tibetan refugees living in Bylakuppe, India. Disciplines The program is informed by the following learning disciplines: Animation Contemporary Art Practices Digital Arts Experimental Media Arts Film Game Art, Design and Development Language Arts Textile Arts Mathematics and Physical Sciences Photography Design Management Human Centered Design Systems Design Information Technology Visual Communication Design Aesthetics and Critical Studies Cultural Studies Heritage and Conservation Public History Research and Collaboration The program is closely linked with a wide range research and practice spaces: Center for Education, Research, Training, and Development (CERTAD) Center for Public History (CPH) Design+Environment+Law Laboratory (DEL Laboratory) Srishti Films An illustration from Anukriti Arora's book, 'The Ginormous Friend', a children's book inspired from her interactions with the Tibetan community at Bylakuppe. Key Values The implications of design lie not so much in their ability to communicate as in the values that inform their conception. At IAIDP, the purpose of building a narrative and using it for communication is embedded in ethics and empathy, responsibility, deep understanding and an essential rooting of oneself in the environment. At IAIDP our work will be defined and informed by the values of: Empathetic Telling Ethical Engagement Responsible Dissemination Embodied Narration Ecological Awareness Course Structure Studios encourage active, contextual learning where students develop core disciplinary skills and knowledge. Studios facilitate collaborative and creative design solutions to complex, open-ended problems Workshops provide intense learning experiences in making and doing, across the different disciplines. We facilitate design and art professionals of the future, who can work in multiple contexts, make complex connections, lead and manage change. We facilitate and inculcate working with autonomy towards a clear self-position, be it as an entrepreneur, a design lead or as an independent creative practitioner. [+]

M.Des. in Industrial Arts and Design Practices The future of ‘how, why and where things are made’ is rapidly changing with new technologies and possibilities emerging every day. What does this mean for the designer of the future? How can we use the power of new technologies along with the unique tradition of making we have in India to create a new language in design and art? We facilitate design and art professionals of the future, who can work in multiple contexts, make complex connections, lead and manage change. We facilitate and inculcate working with autonomy towards a clear self-position, be it as an entrepreneur, a design lead or as an independent creative practitioner. The course combines best practices from art and design methodologies, which then allows the student a complex navigation between exploring, conceptualizing and translation. The common values of art and design lie in rigorous understanding and embracing of thinking and making practices using tools like mapping, systems understanding, making informed choices about materials and processes and translating the abstract into tangible form etc. The artistic practice allows one to develop sensibilities exploring multiple materials, techniques and technologies, craft and mass manufacturing industries leading to a rigorous search for form and content. The program opens up possibilities to establish a dialogue between multiple media, materiality and conceptual rigor. The course allows you to build a creative practice based on the previous education and experiences, without abandoning the same. The overall learning experience helps you leverage past education to move to a position where you are able to lead, drive and manage, rather than start afresh in any new field. If you see yourself as a creative textile designer or artist, if you are keenly interested in the way products are envisaged, used and valued, if you would like to influence the way people use furniture in the future, we help you construct frameworks to realize your potential and vision. Melhores Mestrados em Design na Índia 2017. M.Des. in Human Centered Design The vision of this program is to create designers who will empathetically explore and apply understanding of human behavior, context, and technology towards creation of digital products and services that enhance the users lives. They will not only, what David Kelly, IDEO says, “Have a dream that goes beyond what exists, rather than fixing what exists”, but also realize this dream. Human Centered Design is about keeping focus on “people” while creating products and services. It is about creating rich user experiences that aim at solving existing problems, creating delight for people and making products and services usable and useful. At Srishti Human Centered Design concentrates on Interaction Design and User Experience Design. We think about human-centered design as not just “user-driven” in its traditional sense, but more about “designing for emerging usages”. We foster a combination of creative Art & Design thinking, along with critical thinking of the Humanities to explore a human-centered design that not only produces great digital solutions, but also critically questions and explores future ways of interacting with digital technology and their implications. Human-Centered Design at Srishti not only covers the traditional reductive aspects of User-Centered Design & Human-Computer Interaction such as Historical Frameworks & models (e.g. cognitive psychology models, cooperative design, participatory design, contextual design) Design Elements (visibility, accessibility, legibility & language) Creative Design (Ideation & brainstorming, concept development) Analysis tools (persona, scenarios and use-cases, usability and experience evaluation) Evaluative tools (requirements, usability)but also covers aspects such as Theory of Persuasive & Emotional Design, including how to design for human emotions, aesthetics & pleasure Designing meaningful interactive products and services across different cultures through applying Cross-cultural and trans-cultural design frameworks Emerging trends around transitions in human behaviors, cultures and societies and their implications on Design Emerging trends in technology and interaction modalities Methods and frameworks for creative thinking and innovation, such as participatory enactment, alpha ideation, vision-driven design, etc Frameworks & models (e.g. cooperative design, participatory design, contextual design) Design Elements (visibility, accessibility, legibility & language) Rhetorical situation (audience, purpose & context) Analysis tools (persona, scenarios and use-cases) Evaluative tools (requirements, usability) Apart from these, the course also covers aspects such as Emotions, aesthetics & pleasure Cross-cultural and trans-cultural influences Trends around transitions in behaviors, cultures and societies Trends in technology and interaction modalities Creative thinking and innovation The Postgraduate studies in Human-Centered Design is rooted in the historical evolution of the field of Human-Computer Interaction, from the early versions of a cognitive human to the current understanding of designing for the emotional and socially situated humans, with their own needs, desires and aspirations. However, we also make the students capable of exploring the emerging understandings of humans in transition, and explore and construct a future that seems to go beyond human-centered design. Graduates of the Human Centered Design at Srishti will be able to contribute in the areas of strategic user experience design, interaction and user-interface design. They will be involved in designing and enhancing digital products and services and their interfaces such as Zomato, Cleartrip, etc. They could also shape the emerging markets through designing new digital products & services in the areas of healthcare, and smart and sustainable living.
